Solfeggio Manual Vol.1 - Mario Fulgoni
The Manual of Solfeggio Vol. 1 - Mario Fulgoni, has the function of supporting the preparation of the spoken solfeggio tests (clef and septiclavius) present in the Theory and Solfeggio license exam program, thus integrating the two volumes of the Manual of Music that represent its complement.
The spoken solfeggio represents a musical reading exercise that goes beyond simple rhythmic reading; it can be considered a facilitated sung solfeggio, with only symbolic intonation, a bridge between pure rhythm and real musical performance, endowed with phrasing, breath and a close relationship between rhythm and melody.
The spoken solfeggio is a very useful preparatory exercise: beyond the particularities that each different instrumental idiom entails, the "saying" the embellishment leads to a correct instrumental pronunciation, to the exact rhythmic positioning and to the definition of the musical meaning of the single ornament. This creates the basis for a subsequent vocal and instrumental specialization, which obviously contemplates greater executive freedom and an opening up to different styles and practices. The problem of interpreting embellishments therefore represents a field of application in which spoken solfeggio is irreplaceable.
On the other hand, the exact pronunciation of the syllables is recommended, with the doubling of the consonants where it is desired to obtain precision in the rhythmic placement of the notes and the effectiveness of accentuation.
It is considered essential to keep the vowel on the breath in long values, without repetition of the vowel itself and the correct enhancement of syncopes and all rhythmic events. Breathing and phrasing must also be adequate for a musical performance, detecting, whenever possible, also the signs of articulation, dynamics and agogic. An essential condition for this practice is the internalization of the pulsation, albeit punctuated through the gesture of the hand, which is none other than the ancient and very modern “tactus”.
